OUGD602: Peter Barber \ Mural Artist

Pete came in to do a workshop for a brief provided by Plusnet to create a wall mural. It was good to hear and see what he's been working on as a mural artist and how he makes a living by doing this, as it's something I want to pursue after university.

He creates his own work but also produces wall paintings of other people's designs, so has a lot of technical experience about creating good quality murals, so there's a lot I can learn with him. I plan to get in touch after we've completed the brief/workshop and see if I can go with him on a couple of jobs and gain further experience. His sign painting work interests me particularly.

OUGD602: Typeface research / Free fonts

I was on a blog and stumbled across these free to download typefaces - the ones below were particularly interesting due to the unusualness of their design. 'Porto' is quite trendy however I still find it visually appealing and wouldn't mind attempting something similar myself. 'Tesla' perfectly encompasses the feeling of wiring and circuit boards into the letterforms and makes for an interesting display typeface.

OUGD602: Goat Updates / March 2016

A few updates for Goat Collective at the moment;

- Disposable Society
The exhibition went really well and we got a great turn out. A few people we spoke to turned up purely down to the guerrilla advertising we did on disposed of materials around Hyde Park, which was good to hear. Although stressful at times and fairly expensive, the event was a success and we can't wait to get started on the next one.

- NURAG clothing launch
An event we collaborated in on the 10th March was the launch of clothing collection by Joe from Nurag. He asked us at Goat to collaborate in the event by doing some live art pieces, while our photographer, Karl and filmmaker, Rees, recorded the event.

- Made in Leeds TV interview
Ahead of the Nurag event, a few members of Goat were interviewed by Made in Leeds and appeared on the show on Friday night. The clip is available to view online.

- Monthly HPBC exhibits
We're still adding new artwork to Hyde Park Book Club every month, and putting on a get together on the 'launch' of new work for a couple of hours on the Sunday of each month. This is something we need to embrace and capitalise on more over the next few months, as we have spoken to owner Jack about putting on a 'Goat fest' style larger event in June once we have finished the academic year.

- Social Media
We've had several mentions by well known companies and businesses over the past month, partly promoting Disposable Society. Naturally our reputation will build online as we gain more recognition.

OUGD602: Exhibition night!

All Saturday we spent at the venue setting up, where we all had different roles in order to get everything done in time. We had some issues with the staff there who booked an event for 150 people the night before the exhibition, even though we booked out the space from the 3rd in order to set up, which was annoying but we managed to work around it.

After the event we thanked people for coming and noticed a 30k post reach on Facebook for the event. Hopefully big things to come from here!

OUGD602: New website up!

We've recently been in touch with our web coder to update the old site into the one we revamped, which includes images of our work, links to all portfolios and social media, and our updated manifesto. It also utilises our brand colour, red more predominately.

It's now live, and we are able to change the photos and links as we wish which is really helpful in keeping the site updated with current work.
