OUGD602: Monthly Exhibits at HPBC

As Goat Collective we have acquired an artist residency at Hyde Park Book Club, with a monthly event to launch our new set of work. So far we had the initial set of work, where I submitted a 4ft painting to be placed on the ceiling, and our most recent work launched on 17th January 2016 where I submitted one of my circle designs, both pictured below.

The night was a success with the space packed out at one point, photos below of event.

Our next date is set for the 21st Feb, where we will put up a new set of work by each of us.  This keeps us on the ball creating artwork that we want to produce in our spare time, as well as updating the work and keeping it fresh in HPBC. We have put up a sign to say all our work is for sale, and have a stack of business cards at the bar which we've had good feedback from the owner.

OUGD602: Disposable Society - Call for Submissions

Dan and I have created several physical posters to promote and advertise our call for submissions for Goat Collective curated exhibition Disposable Society, which is occurring at the beginning of March 2016.

To create these we used the disposed of posters taken down from the billboard columns in Leeds city centre, furthering our concept of reusing disposed of materials. The ripped up, collage effect includes many colours and is visually appealing, creating a visual aesthetic in itself that fits with the concept.  We added the vital information only to keep the posters as minimal as possible, using black text printed on white paper and cut in to strips to be placed over the collaged background we had manually ripped to achieve the best effect.

Goat has received several email submissions for our upcoming Disposable Society exhibition in March, and we look forward to seeing the rest come in over the next few weeks.

After we handed our dissertations in with a lot of stress for COP 3, we realised the submission deadline was looming and would come around very quickly. To compensate for third years, and give everyone a bit more extra time, we decided to extend the submission date until the 20th February.

We changed dates on the online brief and updated social media sites to inform everyone. Throughout college we stuck with the same aesthetic by sticking hand drawn dates over the original '7th'.

OUGD602: Updating HPBC menu boards

I looked at some sign writing typefaces and sign writers work to get a feel for how the writers draw each letterform, noting small details such as the thickness of line weight and height of the crossbars.

When actually doing the boards I didn't spend as much time as I should have to make them look as good as they could, but I feel the letters are balanced enough and are readable enough. With practice I will become better at this style of lettering, and I'll be able to develop my skills by updating the boards at HPBC over the next few months. It might be worth sitting down and perfecting this one style to produce an outcome that I'm satisfied with each time.

OUGD602: ArtofType \ Snapchat

After reposting one of my images on Instagram, the page 'Art of Type' requested that I take over their Snapchat page to post some tutorials and videos of my writing/calligraphy/lettering stuff.

As their fan base is quite large with over 40,000 followers on Instagram I took up the opportunity and created a few videos over the weekend for them. Nothing of much particular interest other than just showing real time videos using different pens.

Stills of what I posted:
